Shao-Hung Lee (Dennis)Dennis entered the PhD program at UCR Entomology in 2018. He is a long-time California resident who grew up in Sacramento, where he spent much of his childhood exploring the wilderness in search of insects. As an undergraduate student, he found his interest in applied work by studying novel control methods for Argentine ants.
In his free time, Dennis eats, sleeps, and breathes research. He has collected and established multiple strains of German cockroaches at UCR, and works on characterizing their insecticide resistance profiles through bioassays, biochemical, and molecular techniques. Additionally, he investigates the use of artificial sweeteners as novel insecticides for the German cockroach, as well as explores the cockroach gut microbiome and its contribution to insecticide resistance.
